The Binghamton Senators travelled to Rochester Friday night to kick off a pre-holiday home-and-home series with the North Division’s Amerks. The B-Sens would fall to the Amerks for the first time this season, 6-5 in a shootout.
Andre Benoit, Hugh Jessiman and Patrick Wiercioch each scored a goal and added an assist in regulation. Tyler Eckford and Jakob Silfverberg also scored goals.
Luke Adam, T.J. Brennan, Kevin Porter, Evan Rankin and Kevin Sundher each scored goals for the home standing Amerks.
Although Jakob Silfverberg and Mike Hoffman scored in the shootout, the Amerks ultimately took the game with Cody Hodgson tallying the game winner in the sixth round.
Ben Bishop started in goal making 36 saves through regulation and overtime before stopping three of six shooters in the shootout. David Leggio earned the win in goal for the Amerks making 34 saves through regulation and overtime and stonewalling four of six B-Sens in the shootout.
Saturday, Dec. 22: Rochester 1, Binghamton 5

PP: Rochester 0 for 2, Binghamton 2 for 5
The B-Sens rebounded from Friday’s loss and headed into the Christmas break on a high note by defeating the Rochester Amerks in Binghamton Saturday night by a score of 5-1.
For the second straight game captain Andre Benoit tallied a goal and an assist. Mike Hoffman and Jakob Silfverberg also ended the night with a goal and an assist each. Mark Stone and Rochester native Shane Prince rounded out the scoresheet for the B-Sens.
Defenseman Jerome Gauthier-Leduc scored the lone goal for the Amerks.
Robin Lehner earned the nod in goal for the B-Sens and made 34 saves. Connor Knapp started in goal for Rochester and ended the night with 32 saves.
Wednesday, Dec. 26: Syracuse 5, Binghamton 3
Shots: Syracuse 44, Binghamton 20
PP: Syracuse 2 for 5, Binghamton 1 for 2
A slow start in the traditional Boxing Day match would ultimately doom the B-Sens who fell to visiting Syracuse Crunch Wednesday night by a score of 5-3.
The Crunch outshot the B-Sens 12 to 2 in the first period and 44 to 20 overall in the game.
Cory Conacher led the Crunch scoring a goal and adding a pair of assists in the game. Mike Angelidis, Mark Barberio, J.T. Brown and Radko Gudas also scored.
Jakob Silfverberg (one goal, one assist) and Hugh Jessiman (two assists) each had a pair of points in the game. Stephane Da Costa and Jean-Gabriel Pageau added goals.
Ben Bishop started in goal for the B-Sens making 39 saves. Dustin Tokarski earned the start for the Crunch turning aside 17 shots.
Standings:The B-Sens are second place overall in the East Division (35 points).
Friday, Dec. 28 @ Albany Devils (New Jersey Devils) – 7 p.m.
The B-Sens begin a weekend of back-to-back road games with a trip up route 88 to Albany where they will face the Northeast Division’s Devils for the first game of an eight game season series.
The Devils enter the weekend with a record of 9-10-1-6 and 25 points, ranking them fifth overall in their division.
Former B-Sens forward Bobby Butler leads the Devils in goals (11), power play goals (3) and is tied for first overall on the team in points (16).
Saturday, Dec. 29 @ Rochester Americans (Buffalo Sabres) – 7:05 p.m.
The B-Sens visit the Rochester Amerks on Saturday night for the fifth of eight meetings between the teams this season and their third game against the North Division foe in just over a week’s time.
The B-Sens earned three of a possible four points against the Amerks last weekend. Binghamton is 3-0-0-1 against Rochester so far this season.
The Amerks enter the weekend in fourth place in the North Division with a record of 14-11-2-1 and 31 points.
Defenseman T.J. Brennan currently leads the team in goals (12), power play goals (6) and points (28).
Monday, Dec. 31 vs. St. John’s IceCaps (Winnipeg Jets) – 6:05 p.m.
The B-Sens welcome the St. John’s IceCaps to Binghamton on New Year’s Eve for the first of four meetings between the teams this season.
The IceCaps hold a record of 14-16-0-1 and 29 points which ranks them fifth overall in the Atlantic Division.
Derek Meech leads the IceCaps in scoring with 17 points (three goals, 14 assists). Zach Redmond is right behind him with 16 points (eight goals, eight assists).
Promotions: Start your New Year’s night off right and party with the B-Sens! The first 500 fans in attendance receive a mini New Year’s hat or noisemaker. Fans are encouraged to break out their best and dress to impress as we ring in 2013!
Defenseman Andre Benoit was one of the B-Sens top point producers last week. Benoit tallied five points (two goals, three assists) in the past three games. Three of those five points – one goal and two assists – came on the power play. Benoit leads Binghamton in power play points. The captain has scored four times and added eight assists for a total of 12 points when the B-Sens have had the man advantage.
Jakob Silfverberg also had a five point week. The forward scored three goals and two assists in the B-Sens’ last three games. Silfverberg now boasts a six game point scoring streak and a five game goal scoring streak. He leads the B-Sens and is tied for fourth among American Hockey League rookies in points with 24 (12 goals, 12 assists).
B-SENS BRINGING IT HOME TO THE COMMUNITY…
The Binghamton Senators have partnered with Dickin Memorial Animal Hospital in Johnson City for their second annual season-long effort to assist the Southern Tier pet population, dubbed “Pucks 4 Paws” (formerly known as Paws for Cause).
The initiative has officially kicked off with the debut of the 2013 Binghamton Senators Paws for Cause calendar. The 16-month calendar features photos of B-Sens players, coaches and staff members with
their family pets or pets from the area shelters. The limited edition calendars are $20 and available for purchase at the Pucks 4 Paws table on Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena concourse for all upcoming B-Sens home games, while supplies last.
New this year Dickin Memorial Animal Hospital will be raffling off a special Binghamton Senators pendant, designed exclusively for Pucks 4 Paws by CD Daniel & Co. Fine Jewelry. The pendant, valued at $1,500, is reversible. One side features a diamond paw print, while the other features the B-Sens logo accented by rubies and black diamonds. The pendant will be on display at the Pucks 4 Paws table on the arena concourse for all upcoming B-Sens home games until the drawing which is set to take place on Feb. 15. Fans need not be present to win. Raffle tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the Pucks 4 Paws table, the B-Sens executive offices during regular business hours and Dickin Memorial Animal Hospital (716 Harry L Drive, Johnson City).
All proceeds from the calendar and raffle sales will benefit the Animal Care Council, Broome County Humane Society, Front Street Dog Shelter, SPCA in Waverly and Project P.A.W.
