B-Sens Drop Early Lead, Fall to Hershey 4-2

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. –The Binghamton Senators fell on home ice to the Hershey Bears 4-2 despite jumping out with a 2-0 lead early on.  Tyson Strachan notched a goal and two assists while Nicolas Deschamps scored twice to lead the Bears to a come-from-behind victory.  Hershey goaltender David Leggio played stellar in the net stopping 37 of 39 shots faced to earn his fourth victory of the year.  Nathan Lawson managed 24 saves for the night but dropped to 8-4-0 with the loss.

Jim O’Brien got Binghamton rolling just 32 seconds into the opening period when he managed to corral a loose puck off the end boards in front of the crease and beat Leggio under his leg pad making it 1-0 B-Sens.  Binghamton kept their momentum going when Mark Stone fed a streaking Buddy Robinson on a two-on-one who then put the puck home at the 7:05 mark of the first.  However, just over one minute later Hershey cut the lead to one when Strachan beat Lawson over his right shoulder in an unsettled situation in front of the crease.  The B-Sens took the 2-1 lead into the first intermission as Lawson turned aside 10 of 11 shots faced while his Hershey counterpart stymied 11 of 12 Binghamton shots.

Despite the B-Sens outshooting Hershey in the middle frame, the period was all Bears.  Josh Brittain leveled the scoreboard at two apiece 3:06 into the period off feeds from David Kolomatis and Julien Brouillette.  Just over four minutes later, the Bears took its first lead of the night when Deschamps controlled a rebound off Lawson making the score 3-2 heading into the final intermission.

The third period brought no reprieve for the home team as Leggio continually shut the door on the few chances Binghamton had.  Deschamps added his second marker of the night at the 18:39 moving the final score to 4-2 Hershey and putting Binghamton on its first three-game losing streak of the season.

Despite starting the season with the number one unit in the league, Binghamton’s power-play continues to struggle going 0/4 for the evening.  The B-Sens outshot its visitors 39-28 for the contest, but Leggio was up for the challenge shutting the door on their hosts for over 50 consecutive minutes of play.

Binghamton returns to home ice tomorrow night hosting the Albany Devils in the first of six meetings between the teams this season.  Albany currently sits in second place in the Northeast Division with a 13-7-1-1 record.  Tickets for tomorrow night are available by calling the Binghamton Senators Executive Office at (607) 722-7367 or stopping in from 8:00a.m. until the puck drops.  Fans can also purchase tickets through the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena Box Office and all Ticketmaster outlets during normal business hours by visiting www.ticketmaster.com or at 1-800-745-3000.
