B-SENS WEEKLY RELEASE (WEEK 26)

LAST WEEK:  The Binghamton Senators (40-28-5-4, 89 pts.) took three of a possible six points this past week to stay in the thick of the East Division playoff hunt with Philadelphia.  The B-Sens trail Philadelphia by one point entering the final week of the regular season.

WEDNESDAY, APR. 1 vs. WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON (3-2 SOL):  Goaltender Jeff Glass turned in a spectacular performance against the high-scoring Penguins on Wednesday night.  The netminder set a new career high with 47 saves, including 19 in the third period, to secure one point for the B-Sens in the shootout loss.  Danny Bois (0+2) and Zack Smith (1+1) power Binghamton with two points each.  Defenseman Derek Smith buried his sixth goal of the season.  The two teams combined for 90 shots on the night.

FRIDAY, APR. 3 @ ROCHESTER (4-2 L):  Despite a 44-24 advantage in shots, the B-Sens fell to the Americans by a 4-2 final.  Rochester capitalized on three power play chances while Binghamton’s top-ranked PP unit was blanked, going 0/7 on the night.  Mark Bomersback notched his third goal of the season midway through the final period.  Left-winger Greg Mauldin tallied in the final 30 seconds to make it a 4-2 final.

SATURDAY, APR. 4 vs. ALBANY (5-2 W):  Binghamton rattled off four unanswered goals to down the River Rats on Saturday night at the Arena.  Marc Cavosie turned momentum in the B-Sens favor midway through the second period when he netted a shorthanded goal to make it a 2-2 game.  Greg Mauldin scored the game-winning goal three minutes after Cavosie’s marker.  It gave Mauldin goals in two straight games.  2007 first-round draft pick Jim O’Brien collected his first professional point with an assist on Zack Smith’s goal late in the second period.  Mark Bomersback added a late goal to give him goals in two straight and secure the B-Sens 5-2 win.

THIS WEEK:  The B-Sens play two road games and one home game in the final week of the regular season.  Binghamton travels up I-81 to take on the Syracuse Crunch (39-31-4-3, 85 pts.) on Wednesday night.  The B-Sens take on the Norfolk Admirals (30-38-4-5, 69 pts.) on Friday night in the club’s final regular season home game.  The Senators head to Albany on Saturday night to take on the River Rats (31-39-3-4, 69 pts.) in regular season finale.
