ALBANY, N.Y. – The Binghamton Senators travelled to the Times Union Center in Albany for a rare Wednesday evening tilt against the hometown Devils. Albany captain Stephen Gionta’s third period tally helped propel his team to the 3-2 victory.
Binghamton’s captain Mark Parrish would also get on the scoreboard in the game. Parrish notched his sixth of the season with a man advantage at 5:52 of the first to give the B-Sens a 1-0 lead. Corey Cowick and Mike Hoffman assisted on the power play marker.
The Devils answer at 8:09 of the first as Joe Whitney scored his fourth of the season on a power play to even things up, 1-1.
At 9:07 of the second period B-Sens blue liner Mark Borowiecki found the back of the Albany net to put Binghamton back ahead, 2-1. The goal was his first as professional, assisted by Andre Petersson.
The Devils tied the game up one more, taking advantage of a Binghamton turnover to score shorthanded at 15:39 of the middle frame. Steve Bernier received credit for the goal, his first with Albany.
Gionta buried his first goal of the season just 3:09 into the third period to give the Devils their first lead in the game, 3-2. Albany netminder turned away all 10 Binghamton shots faced in the third to help his team hold on for the win.
In all, Kinkaid stopped 31 of 33 shots face en route to the victory. Mike McKenna tended goal for Binghamton against his former team stopping 27 of 30 shots.
The B-Sens host the Rochester Americans Friday at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are $18.50 for side seating, $17.50 for end seating.
