WILKES-BARRE, P.A. – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins defeated the Binghamton Senators 4-2 at the Mohegan Sun Arena on Tuesday night. The loss in Binghamton’s fourth straight and fifth straight against the East Division foes.
The B-Sens opened the scoring in the first period, capitalizing on a 5-on-3 power play. Stephane Da Costa beat Brad Thiessen to earn his first American Hockey League goal and give the B-Sens a 1-0 advantage at 7:27 of the period. Pat Cannone and Mike Hoffman drew the assists.
Colin McDonald tied the game for the Pens, beating Robin Lehner top shelf at 8:38 of the second. The goal was the first of two on the night for McDonald.
Hoffman reclaimed the lead for Binghamton, taking advantage of another 5-on-3 opportunity at 14:09 of the second, but the Penguins answered in the final two minutes of the period as Ben Street slid a shot in behind a down and out Lehner.
Zach Sill broke the 2-2 tie at 8:01 of the third period, redirecting Carl Sneep’s shot from the point to put the Penguins ahead 3-2.
McDonald added an empty-net tally with just 7.1 seconds remaining in the game to seal the victory for the Penguins.
Binghamton ended the night 2-for-6 on the power play. Wilkes-Barre was 1-for-3 with the man advantage.
The Binghamton Senators return home to host the Adirondack Phantoms on Friday. Game time is 7:05 p.m. Tickets are $18.50 for side seating, $17.50 for end seating.
