The Binghamton Senators got two goals from defenseman Drew Fata and three points (1+2) from rookie Zack Smith on their way to a commanding 4-1 division win over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Saturday night at the Arena at Harbor Yard.

Fata notched the only goal for either team in the first two periods of play to give the Senators the lead.

Center Marc Cavosie buried his first goal, the eventual game winner, as a B-Sen early in the third period before the B-Sens netted two more to close out the victory.

Fata, who played the last two seasons in Bridgeport, tallied his second of the evening on a B-Sens power play.

Jeff Tambellini spoiled the shutout bid for netminder Brian Elliott with a marker midway through the final period.

Smith capped the B-Sens scoring with his team-leading 10th goal of the season late in the third period.

Elliott stopped 21 of 22 shots for his 14th victory of the season, which puts him atop the AHL wins category with Scott Munroe (Philadelphia). In addition, his 25 games played are second in the league.

Fata’s two-goal effort was a career high for the defenseman, while Cavosie’s two points (1+1) were a season high for the veteran forward.

The B-Sens return to home ice on Friday, Dec. 26 to host the Syracuse Crunch at 7:05 p.m.
