GLENS FALLS, N.Y.– The B-Sens hit the ice at the Glens Falls Civic Center tonight to take on the Adirondack Phantoms for the first of 10 regular season meetings between the East Division teams. Entering the game, Adirondack trailed the B-Sens by only one point in the standings. The B-Sens leave the Glens Falls Civic Center three points ahead of the Phantoms, following a commanding 5-0 victory.
Just over five minutes into the first period of play, Erik Condra lifted the puck up and over the Phantoms’ Johan Backlund, just behind the crossbar to give the B-Sens a 1-0 lead. Josh Hennessy earned the helper.
1:54 later defenseman Derek Smith hits the open net on Backlund’s glove side to give the B-Sens a 2-0 lead. Hennessy is credited with his second assist of the night.
The scoring didn’t stop there for Binghamton. At 16:19, Denis Hamel picked up a drop pass from Cody Bass, snipering a shot from the top of the circle and into the Adirondack net, sending his team to the dressing room with a commanding 3-0 lead.
At 8:54 of the second period, Hamel fired a shot, top corner glove side on Backlund to give the B-Sens a 4-0 lead. Erik Karlsson and Tomas Kudelka assisting.
D. Smith scored his second goal of the night on the power play, wide open stick side this time on Backlund at 15:37 to give the B-Sens the 5-0 lead. Karlsson earned his second helper of the night on the goal.
Reebok/AHL Player of the Week, Mike Brodeur manned the pipes for Binghamton, stopping all 21 shots he faced.
Five B-Sens total recorded two point nights: Erik Condra (1 + 1), Denis Hamel (2 + 0), Josh Hennessy (0 + 2), Erik Karlsson (0 + 2) and Derek Smith (2 + 0).
The B-Sens return to the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. where they will face the Atlantic Division’s Manchester Monarchs.
