BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The visiting Springfield Falcons broke out of their recent offensive struggles tonight en route to a 5-2 win over the Binghamton Senators. The victory was only Springfield’s third in their past 25 games, a great feat accomplished despite being out shot 40 to 26.

Following a scoreless first in which B-Sens nearly tripled Springfield’s shot total, 14-5; it took Ryan Keller only 31 seconds into the second period to put the B-Sens on the board.  Falcons’ net minder, Jean-Philippe Levasseur strayed too far from the net, allowing Keller to tip the puck in for the 1-0 lead.

The Falcons responded with a goal of their own at the 9:09 mark to tie the score. After a B-Sens defensive miscue, Ryan O’Marra centered the puck to Colin McDonald, who the beat B-Sens’ goaltender Chris Holt high glove side.

Less than three minutes later, another turnover by the Senators defense would lead to a Springfield goal, as Charles Linglet stole the puck and fed O’Marra who beat Holt for a 2-1 Falcon’s lead.

Springfield added some insurance, going up 3-1 just one minute into the third as Liam Reddox took a pass from Marc Pouliot, who then skated his way into the Binghamton slot to light the lamp.

At 9:23 the B-Sens began their comeback attempt as Martin St. Pierre fired a shot that Keller deflected past Levasseur for his fourth goal of the weekend, bringing the B-Sens back within one goal.

However, the comeback was short lived. Just three minutes after Keller’s second tally Falcons’ left wing Viacheslav Trukhno picked up a McDonald pass, flipping the puck past Holt to regained the two goal lead for his team.

Springfield added insult to injury as Trukho found the empty net with 26 seconds remaining.

The Senators return to action next Friday, Jan. 22 at 7:05pm as they host the Adirondack Phantoms. Tickets are $17.75 for side seating, and $16.75 for end seating.
