The Binghamton Senators netted two goals late in the third period but were unable to put a game-tying third goal in net as the Hershey Bears handed the B-Sens their first regulation loss of the season on Saturday night by a 3-2 final.
The Bears came out firing in the first period with 20 shots on netminder Jeff Glass. Keith Aucoin buried a power-play marker two minutes into the period, followed by an unassisted tally by Oskar Osala to give Hershey a 2-0 advantage.
The B-Sens put just three shots on net in the opening period, but turned the momentum in the second with 13 shots. Netminder Daren Machesney turned away all 13, as the Bears took their 2-0 lead into the third period.
Following a goal by Alexandre Giroux early in the third, the B-Sens used a 5-on-3 power-play chance to start the comeback.
Brendan Bell netted his second goal of the season with Ryan Shannon and Josh Hennessy assisting on the play. The assist marked Hennessy’s 100 AHL assist in 239 career games.
The B-Sens pulled the goaltender late in the third when fellow defenseman Matt Carkner buried his first marker of the season to bring Binghamton within one goal. The Bears held on in the final 1:20 to secure the win.
Glass turned away 32 shots for the B-Sens to earn third-star honors.
The B-Sens return home for two games against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Friday, Oct. 31 and Saturday, Nov. 1.
