Defenseman Brendan Bell buried the game-tying goal late in the third period before netting the only shootout marker to power the B-Sens to a 4-3 win over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in Summerside, P.E.I. on Tuesday afternoon.
Bell, playing in his 300 American Hockey League game, extended his career-high point streak to nine games (5+6) with one goal and one assist in regulation before opening the shootout round with Binghamton’s lone tally.  Bell has scored on all three shootout attempts this season.
The top-ranked B-Sens power play continued to shine on Tuesday, converting on three of six chances.  Defenseman Mattias Karlsson buried the first of those goals, taking a feed from rookie Zack Smith deep in the faceoff circle and snapping a shot past netminder Peter Mannino.
Rob Hennigar responded for Bridgeport in the final minutes of the opening period with a power-play goal of his own.  Hennigar used a screen to beat netminder Brian Elliott on a wrist shot from the left circle to make it a 1-1 contest.
Hennigar also accounted for the games only even-strength tally late in the second period. Hennigar worked up the right boards after a long feed from Chris Lee and beat Elliott on the glove side.  Mike Iggulden gave the Sound Tigers a two-goal advantage with power-play tally in the opening minute of the third period.
Rookie sniper Zack Smith buried his team-leading ninth goal of the year at 6:20 of the third, crashing the net and tipping in the feed from Brendan Bell, to draw Binghamton within one goal. Smith has now found the back of the net in three straight and has points in five straight (4+2).  Ilya Zubov also assisted on the marker.
Bell and Zubov teamed on the game-tying goal with just over three minutes remaining in regulation.  With the B-Sens operating on the power play, Zubov sent a cross-ice pass to Bell, who fired a slap shot from top of the left faceoff circle past Mannino.
After a scoreless overtime period, netminder Brian Elliott turned away all five Bridgeport shootout attempts to secure his sixth win.  Bell’s shootout winner came in Binghamton first attempt.
Elliott made 30 saves in regulation for Binghamton, while right wing Ryan Shannon saw his eight-game point streak snapped.
The B-Sens and Sound Tigers head north to St. John’s, N.L. for the rematch tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. ET.
