Binghamton Makes it 4-0 Against Rochester with 3-1 Win

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Binghamton traveled to Rochester for a Wednesday night matchup versus the Americans and maintained their perfect record this season over Rochester with a 3-1 win.  Despite falling behind 1-0 early in the second period the B-Sens tallied three straight goals to earn their eighth victory in their last nine games.

Binghamton dominated the first 20 minutes of play mostly thanks to three power-play opportunities, but came up empty on all three to play Rochester to a 0-0 tie after one.  B-Sens goaltender Andrew Hammond turned aside all four shots faced through the opening period while Matt Hackett stopped all 11 of Binghamton’s shots.

Rochester broke the scoreless tie at 3:12 of the second period when Phil Varone beat Hammond low glove side for his seventh goal of the year off assists from Luke Adam and Matt MacKenzie.  Binghamton came back to tie things up with just under six minutes to play in the period when Buddy Robinson collected a loose puck and lifted it over a sprawling Hackett for his seventh tally of the year.  The B-Sens grabbed their first lead of the game with just 1.4 seconds on the scoreboard in the second period.  Matt Puempel unleashed a wrist shot from the left faceoff circle off a deep outlet pass from Corey Cowick, catching Hackett off guard and giving Binghamton a 2-1 heading into the final intermission.

Binghamton controlled the puck for much of the third period while Hammond was only tested seven times throughout the final 20 minutes of play.  Andre Petersson knocked home a puck off of an American’s skate with less than three minutes to play to give the B-Sens the 3-1 victory.

Hammond finished with 16 saves on just 17 shots faced in the game while Hackett was dealt his eleventh loss of the year in a 31 save effort.  Binghamton finished one for seven on the man advantage while their penalty kill stopped both of Rochester’s chances on the night.

Binghamton returns to home ice for back-to-back games this Friday and Saturday versus the Hershey Bears and Adirondack Phantoms, respectively.  Both contests are scheduled for a 7:05p.m. puck drop.  Tickets for both games are available by calling the Binghamton Senators Executive Office at (607) 722-7367 or stopping in between 9:00a.m. and 5:30p.m.  Fans can also purchase tickets through the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena Box Office and all Ticketmaster outlets during normal business hours by visiting www.ticketmaster.com or at 1-800-745-3000.
