B-SENS BATTLE BACK FOR 4-3 OT WIN

Wilkes-Barre, PA – Binghamton rallied to score the final three goals in a come-from-behind overtime win over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at the Mohegan Sun Arena.  Chris Wideman scored the game-winning goal 30 seconds into overtime on the power play to give the B-Sens the victory.  Andrew Hammond started in net for the third consecutive game to improve to 16-10-3 on the season.

Corey Cowick opened the scoring for the B-Sens 2:39 into the first period when he flipped a rebound over Penguins goaltender Jeff Deslauriers for his 11th goal of the season.  Harry Zolnierczyk evened the score at 1-1 just over six minutes later beating Hammond off a feed from Nick Drazenovic.  With Tyler Eckford in the penalty box for a hooking call Wilkes-Barre’s power-play unit went to work.  Working the man advantage Drazenovic one-timed a cross-ice feed from Brian Gibbons to give the Penguins the 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission.

The teams traded goals over the middle frame with the first coming on the power-play for Wilkes-Barre.  With Mike Hoffman sitting for four minutes following a double minor for slashing and unsportsmanlike Brendan Mikkelson notched his fourth goal of the season giving the Penguins their second power-play strike of the evening.  Binghamton drew within one when Matt Puempel sent home his 19th marker of the year with less than four minutes remaining in the second period.  The Penguins outshot the Sens 14-8 during the second period.

Binghamton and Wilkes-Barre each managed just eight shots on goal during the final 20 minutes of play.  Despite the few scoring chances Mark Stone converted on a power-play chance for the Sens at the 6:27 mark of the final period making it 3-3.  Hammond stopped all eight shots faced in the final period of regulation forcing overtime.

With the B-Sens working 1:38 of residual power-play time from Spencer Machacek’s high sticking call at the end of the third Wideman buried his seventh goal of the season to give the Sens the 4-3 come-from-behind overtime win.  Stone earned the secondary assist on Wideman’s game-winner to give him a two point evening.  Hammond finished with 29 saves on 32 shots faced while Deslauriers turned aside 27 of 31 shots in the losing effort.

Binghamton travels to Montreal on Friday to play the Hamilton Bulldogs at the Bell Centre before returning home Saturday for a 7:05p.m. matchup versus the Utica Comets.  Tickets for Saturday’s game are available by calling the Binghamton Senators Executive Office at (607) 722-7367 or stopping in between 9:00a.m. and 5:30p.m.  Fans can also purchase tickets through the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena Box Office and all Ticketmaster outlets during normal business hours by visiting www.ticketmaster.com or at 1-800-745-3000.
