The B-Sens opened the 2010-11 American Hockey League season with a bang, defeating the Adirondack Phantoms 5-1 in front of an opening night crowd of 3,143. Defenseman Andre Benoit led the offensive charge, recording three assists in the game. Bobby Butler and Patrick Wiercioch each recorded their first professional goals, while Cody Bass, Kaspars Daugavins and Jim O’Brien also found the back of the net for Binghamton. Forward Erik Condra and defenseman Geoff Kinrade each notched a pair of assists in the match. Goaltender Mike Brodeur earned the W, stopping 27 of 28 shots faced. Brodeur would however leave the game following a collision with a teammate which resulted in a laceration on the back of his head and concussion. Barry Brust played out the final 4:53 of the game, stopping all three Phantoms shots faced. 
 
Saturday, Oct. 9: Norfolk 7, Binghamton 4
Shots: Norfolk 39, Binghamton 36
PP: Norfolk 2 for 6, Binghamton 0 for 5
 
A wild nine goal second period, favored the Norfolk Admirals who managed to find the back of the Binghamton net for six of those nine goals on their way to handing the B-Sens their first loss of the 2010-11 season. Bobby Butler (one goal, one assist), Jim O’Brien (two goals) and Corey Locke (two assists) would each earn two points in the game. Newly named B-Sens captain Ryan Keller added a goal of his own. Blair Jones and Troy Milam each scored a pair of goals for the Admirals, while Kevin Quick and Marc Antoine-Pouliot each recorded three assists. Barry Brust manned the pipes for Binghamton, stopping 32 of 39 shots faced.

Standings:The B-Sens are currently tied with Adirondack, Charlotte, Norfolk and Wilkes-Barre for second in the East (two points).
  
THIS WEEK…
 
Binghamton enters the week preparing to face two East Division rivals, before travelling north of the border to face a North Division foe in the first of ten American Hockey League games to be featured on CBC.
 
Friday, Oct. 15 vs. Hershey Bears (Washington Capitals)
The Hershey Bears, defending Calder Cup champions, come to town Friday to face the B-Sens for the first of eight meetings between the two teams. Hershey enters the week sitting in first place of the East Division with three points. The Bears fell to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 4-3 in a shootout Saturday, Oct. 9, before rebounding in Rochester Sunday, Oct. 10 defeating the Amerks 4-3. Former B-Sen Lawrence Nycholat (2007-08) and NHL veteran Sheldon Souray are notable players in the Bears line-up. 
 
Saturday, Oct. 16 @ Syracuse Crunch (Anaheim Ducks)
The B-Sens make the trek up to Syracuse to face the Crunch for the first of eight meetings between the I-81 rivals. The Crunch are in their first season of affiliation with Anaheim and enter the week seeking their first win of the season. The Crunch dropped back-to-back games to the Lake Erie Monsters; 3-2 on Friday, Oct. 8 and 2-1 in the shootout on Saturday, Oct. 9. 
 
Sunday, Oct. 17 @ Toronto Marlies (Toronto Maple Leafs)
The B-Sens make their one and only trip to Toronto for a Sunday matinee against the Marlies in the first of a pair of meetings between the teams. The Marlies are still seeking their first win of the 2010-11 season after falling to the Rochester Amerks 4-2 Saturday, Oct. 9 and 3-2 by the Abbottsford Heat earlier this afternoon. The Marlies roster features Binghamton native Jerry D’Amigo and the much buzzed about Maple Leafs prospect Nazem Kadri, a center who put up 93 points (35 goals, 58 assists) with the London Knights of the OHL during the 2009-10 season. The match-up will be featured on CBC in Canada and the NHL Network in the U.S.
 
SENS SNIPPETS…
 
Defenseman Andre Benoit currently leads the B-Sens in points. Benoit recorded four points (four assists) in two games played last week. Three of his four assists came in the B-Sens 5-1 victory over Adirondack, including an assist on Kaspars Daugavins’ game-winning goal. 
 
Friday, Oct. 8 forward Bobby Butler and defenseman Patrick Wiercioch each recorded their first professional goals. 
 
The six goals allowed during the second period in the B-Sens 7-4 loss to Norfolk on Saturday, Oct. 9 tied an all-time B-Sens record. It happened Dec. 16, 2006 at Rochester (a 10-4 B-Sens loss) and Nov. 16 at Hershey (a 9-0 B-Sens loss).
 
B-SENS BRINGING IT HOME TO THE COMMUNITY…
 
Tuesday, Oct. 12 - Sixth Annual Binghamton Senators Charity Golf Classic
Endwell Greens Golf Course, Endwell, N.Y.
Binghamton Senators players and coaches will take part in their annual golf outing to benefit the Family Enrichment Network Tuesday, Oct. 12 at Endwell Greens. Registration begins at 10 a.m., with a shotgun start scheduled for noon. The golf outing is a captain and crew style tournament, with a Binghamton Senators’ player assigned to each foursome. To date, the tournament has raised over $85,000. Money raised at the event will help continue to fund programs and supportive services targeted towards the optimal development of children and families in the Broome County community.
